Christmas 2021

The last couple of weeks have been extremely busy in St. Mary's BNS in the run up to Christmas.

Pupils and teachers have been busy putting together their Christmas performances. Well done to all involved! We look forward to the day when we can host our annual Christmas Plays and Carol Service in the future but were delighted the pupils could still celebrate this occasion in some way. You can click on the classes below to view the performances:

Things became a little heated in recent weeks as a result of our Christmas Door Competition! We could certainly see a real competitive streak coming out in a number of our staff and pupils!! Each staff member and class had to decorate a door in the school for Christmas. It added plenty of colour around the school and created a lovely atmosphere over the last few weeks. 2nd class won the competition and well done to all involved for their hard work! Check out our website www.ferrybankbns.ie to view the doors which were decorated around the school or you can simply click here.

We hope the whole school community has enjoyed the lights display and all of the decorations in front of the school and along the corridors inside the building. It's great to see such a positive reaction from the community and a special word of thanks to Dave for preparing the display again this year!

We had a Santa Dash on Monday 20th December to raise funds for Temple Street Children's Hospital. It's amazing to see the number of children in our school who know young people who have been treated here or been patients themselves in recent years. They do amazing work and we were thrilled to see this fundraiser supported so well by pupils, parents, staff and members of the school community. There was a total of €720 raised and will be sent to Temple Street. Go raibh míle maith agaibh! Thanks also to Ms Grant and Ms Quillinan for organising the event. You can see images of all the classes that took part by clicking here.

There was great excitement this week in the build up to our Christmas Raffle. The school would like to say a sincere thank you to parents, pupils and staff who contributed so generously. A special thank you to the businesses who made such significant donations also to this fundraiser. It's amazing to see such generosity at this time when so many companies are experiencing such difficulty. Míle buíochas. Thanks to Dave, our caretaker, who put in such a wonderful effort by organising the prizes and tickets. There was a total of €2,700 raised. The winners were Angela Hearne, Finn Ryan, Tara Halpin, Gillian Hamm, Stephen White, Margaret Kirk, Siobhán Walsh, Jim Enright, Jim Kealy, Helen Chester, Elaine Delaney, Geraldine Larissey and Carole Walsh.

We had a special visitor to Juniors, Seniors and 1st on Tuesday 21st December. We were delighted to welcome Santa to our school this year and all of the boys were thrilled to see him and receive a small gift. Only 3 days to go to the big day!!

Finally, I would like to say thank you to all our staff, pupils and parents for everything during this term. Your continued support and cooperation are very much appreciated and on behalf of St. Mary’s Boys’ National School I’d like to wish you all a happy and safe Christmas.

Le meas,
